Test Case Writing

Contents of a Test Case

A test case document guides QA through a series of steps to validate that software is free of defects and working as expected. You need a good understanding of the application to write a test case. A properly written test cases makes the testing process more predictable.

Make sure your test plan contains:

  • A description of the test environment, test data and preconditions.
  • Any assumptions that apply to the test.
  • Information on how to execute the test.
  • How to determine if the test case is a pass or fail.

Use a test case management tool, such as Zephyr Enterprise Edition, for writing and disseminating test cases. Download the FREE whitepaper Fundamentals of Quality Assurance by clicking on the image on the right. This whitepaper contains addition information on writing test cases and using Zephyr.
