Sample Test Plan Document
Contents of an Agile Test Plan
In an agile environment, short sprints and iterations require a change in both testing methodology and documentation. Instead of an extensive test plan that covers a long term and sustained testing effort, agile test plans focus on the few requirements identified for a sprint. Test plans are created for each sprint and should be no more than a few pages in length.
The contents of an agile test plan should be no more than:
- Scope. Clearly defined expectations of code quality and the kinds of test to be run during the sprint.
- Risks and Mitigation Strategies. Identification of complex features that require testing multiple execution paths and how that testing will be accomplished.
- Resources and Responsibilities. Description of testing tools that will be used, the manual and automated testing strategy, and who will be doing what.
